The Ice Bucket Challenge really seems to be the most successful viral/meme thing of its type that I’ve ever seen. I think it is incredible, and, obviously on the face of it it’s a good thing: lots of money has been raised for various charities. There are a couple of points I wanted to mention though. Firstly, shouldn’t people (‘we’) be giving to charity anyway? What is special about this particular stimulus to an act of charitable giving? Second… does the focus on one or two charities actually skew the donations such that the funds are actually being taken away from potentially more deserving charities. Just some food for thought.
I made this film as my contribution!
