WEEKLY BEATS

Weekly Beats is a project I first heard about just before the end of 2011. The basic idea is that you can sign up to the project, and in doing so you are pledging to write, record and upload a piece of music once per week for the whole year. I hadn’t done much music at the time, so, I thought… why the hell not? I took part during in 2012, and, managed to upload 51 pieces of music that year… one week I was away in Ibiza celebrating a birthday with scant internet access, so I missed that week.

In 2013 the project didn’t run, but it started up again in 2014 so I took part. In 2014, I managed to upload 52 out of 52 tunes required!

Not sure if I’ll do it again, but it was a great experience. In my atheistic way it became an almost religious ritual 🙂 As well it was an eye opener, in terms of understanding the creative process. It just showed me that… committing to making something (whether it is a piece of design, poetry, art, music, something more technical, or anything else) is always the most important step. Dive in. Do it. Go!

Here I’m archiving the Weekly Beats contributions that I like the most, I’ve categorised them a little… as the genres or styles are quite contrasting.
